The Community Center of Nagua is envisioned as a catalyst for social, educational, and economic development in Nagua, Dominican Republic. Conceived as an open framework for opportunity, it brings together spaces for learning, creativity, entrepreneurship, recreation, and community gathering within a flexible architectural system. The building is rooted in Coralina stone, a material intrinsic to the Dominican landscape. At its base, gabion walls filled with Coralina create a grounded, monolithic foundation that echoes the island’s limestone terrain. As the architecture rises, this solidity transforms into a porous Coralina breeze wall, filtering light, air, and shadow while passively responding to the tropical climate. This transition from mass to permeability defines the building’s environmental performance and spatial character.

Open-air circulation, adaptable classrooms, workshops, courtyards, and multipurpose spaces encourage education, cultural exchange, and civic engagement, allowing the project to evolve alongside the community it serves. More than a building, the Community Center of Nagua is an investment in people. By combining local materials, climate-responsive design, and inclusive public space, it celebrates Dominican identity while creating a resilient civic landmark that fosters opportunity, connection, and long-term community growth.
