La Chistosa

La Chistosa's base is sourced from Xochimilco, MX. The tezontle volcanic rock is a lightweight, highly porous volcanic scoria, that forms when gas's bubbles become trapped in cooling, frothy lava. The two base pieces selected are specifically from the uppermost layer of foam, making it the most lightweight & easy to work with.

This coffee table started with an exercise. Take away the word table, and describe the use of a surface through verbs. Something to play cards on, to shelf your feet, to display fire. A table can be as simple as two rocks, and a piece of wood. The irony came from the design challenge of connecting two rocks with a piece of wood, without introducing a third element. The simensions, espeically the height, came from body measurements.
